David Plowden's Iowa & Humanities Iowa
Client Need:
Humanities Iowa, a group that is committed to bringing the humanities to the public through grant making, publications, and through interactive programming and events wanted to release a capstone collection of Iowa photography from an American master, David Plowden. His latest collection is curated from over four decades photographing our state, and offers a view of Iowa that is nostalgic yet timeless.
Mr. Plowden’s award-winning and nationally recognized photography needed to be reproduced with absolute perfection in order to showcase the quality and integrity of his artwork.
Solution:
David Plowden’s Iowa contains over 70 pages of photographs and with the leadership of Tru Art’s Kathy Gaulke, and supervision from Mr. Plowden himself, the artisans at Tru Art determined a critically important color scheme and production process in order to produce this important piece with perfection. The photographs were to be printed as duotones (2-colors), so it was our challenge to find the perfect balance of color, highlights, mid-tones, and shadows in order to create the richness that Mr. Plowden’s photos required.
Tru Art is proud to have had the opportunity to work with Humanities Iowa and David Plowden to produce this important piece. The book is available in bookstores across Iowa.
